Remakes of cult films can be very tricky. The substitute cast and directors, the music (if the earlier film had exceptional songs), the changes needed for a generational (or more) shift in tastes – any errors of judgement in these vital matters can more than compensate for the tried-and-tested ‘safety quotient’ and kill a new film.

Recent examples where such remakes have gone pitiably off-kilter were Victoria No.203 and Don (which somehow managed to scrape through commercially on the SRK charisma and a Diwali release), and Karzzzz, despite all its astrological and numerological support, an unconventional hero and a barrage of Himesh detractors waiting to see him fall flat, is an outsize gamble.

So what’s the result? Happily, Himesh does it again!
